The Way I See It #76

It's very fitting that my Starbucks cup today had a quote about commitment:

"The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating - in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life" - Anne Morriss (Starbucks customer from NYC).

After 10 years of "Missa and Rob" we are finally ready to publicly commit ourselves to one another, and I feel nothing but relief. Relief that I no longer have to doubt our future, no longer have to say "if" instead of "when", or try to prove the validity of our relationship in words to someone who doesn't understand what we've always known and felt. I have the ring--the symbol of our commitment to get married--and that's all the explanation I or anyone else needs.

What a relief to feel so liberated yet so connected.

Congrats again! You need to update your blog-o's "about me"

Just a month or so ago I was talking with Amy about you, insisting you must believe in the institution of marriage, and basing that on our argument about diamonds after ched's wedding

So thanks for getting engaged and vindicating my logic :D

Diamonds are overrated. Who cares about them? The giving up of a man's freedom is more of a sacrifice and sign of committment than any shiny material good. Should be happy with just that alone!!

GMJ is right. Although I wouldn't say I "gave my freedom"... The point is, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - not now, not ever - it only matters what the two people getting married think/feel. You shouldn't need a diamond to "justify" your love for each other to the outside world. But in Missa's defense, she had previously told me that I didn't need to get her a diamond when/if I chose to propose to her. I got her one anyway though, and I'm glad I did.
